Carmelita A. Teeter, MD
Carmelita Ana Teeter, MD was born in Brownsville, Texas, but only recently "returned home". She was raised in an Army family and traveled extensively growing up. After graduating from high school in Sierra Vista, Arizona, she attended college at both Wellesley College (Massachusetts) and at Brown University. She graduated from Brown University in 1991 with a degree in Biomedical Ethics. She then attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. She did her general orthopedic training in Cleveland Ohio at Case Western Reserve University. She did a fellowship in Sports Medicine with a special interest in shoulder surgery at The University of Texas-Houston. She joined the staff of Rio Grande Orthopedic Center in 2003.
She specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. This includes procedures for meniscal injuries, ligament injuries of the knee as well and shoulder instability and rotator cuff problems. In addition she does shoulder replacements. Dr Teeter is the medical director of the Sports Medicine Program at Valley Baptist Harlingen and is active in the care of local athletes. She serves as the team physician for San Benito High School, the Marine Military Academy and Harlingen High School South. In addition she served as the shoulder specialist for the Rio Grande Valley White Wings. She also acts as a clinical instructor for the Regional Academic Health Center as well as the Physician Assistant's program at University of Texas-Pan American. |
